Head Coach - Coach Alena

Coach Alena has been a cornerstone of the gymnastics community for more than two decades. After competing for the Rimbey Gymnastics Club as a child, she began her coaching career in 2002 as a junior coach. She has dedicated her professional career to the growth and success of the RGC. With an emphasis on athlete safety and development, Coach Alena sets the stage for future success with our recreational and developmental athletes. Throughout her coaching career, Coach Alena has focused on a coaching style that balances performance expectations with unwavering emotional support. Having guided athletes through every stage of development - from their first forward roll to their final competition - Coach Alena understands that the true value of the sport lies in the ability to get back up. Her coaching philosophy centres on building "mental toughness through technical mastery," ensuring that every athlete leaves the gym with not only new skills, but the grit and courage to face any challenge.

Coach Birdy

With over 10 years of coaching experience, as well as 10 years as a competitive gymnast, Coach Birdy believes that gymnastics is as much of a mental game as it is a physical one. Her approach focuses on positive reinforcement, ensuring that every athlete feels seen and supported, regardless of skill level. The core principle of her coaching style is the "Power of Yet." When an athlete says "I can't" we pivot to "I can't YET!"  By celebrating small wins (like a perfect stuck landing, or the courage to attempt a new skill) she helps athletes build a growth mindset. Her proudest moments aren't just the gold metals,  but seeing a gymnast's face light up with shock and joy when they finally land a skill they once feared. Coach Birdy believes that a great coach is a lifelong learner, and is always adapting her techniques to meet the unique needs of every child that walks through our doors.
